56 ACRES SOLD AT HAREWOOD
FIVE LOTS REALISE £18,200 A block of 56} acres of land at Harewood, known as the G. F. Durey Estate, which was passed in when offered at auction in five lots recently, has now been sold for £18.200. The area included a homestead on one lot. Some lots were sold to buyers at figures bid by them at the auction Others were sold by private treaty The estate was farmed by the Dureyfamily for more than 100 years, and its sale attracted much interest in the Harewood district, about 60 persons attending the auction. The land was originally bought by G. F. Durey, a survey cadet of 16 rears of age. who came out to Canterbury with his father in 1850 in the Sir George Seymour The land is highly productive, easily worked free soil, and has grown 14 tons of potatoes and 80 bushels of wheat to, the acre. Similar subdivisions nearby have realised as much as £lOOO and £2OOO an acre for back and front sections respectively. The block is bounded by Harewoon and Wairakei roads and has a frontpage to Stanleys road.
