FISH INDUSTRY INQUIRY
State To Appoint Committee ANNOUNCEMENT by MR MCALPINE (New Zealana Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Dec 18. An advisory committee to guide the Government on emblems associated with the fishing industry will be set up early in the New Year. This was announced today in Invercargill by the Minister of Marine (Mr J. K. McAlpine). He said the decision to set up the committee was in line with a recommendation made by the caucus committee which had inquired into the fish industry. The committee’s membership had not yet V en decided, but it was expected that it would be representative of the Marine Department. the fishermen the wholesalers, and the retailers. The committee would inquire into and advise the Government on anv problems associated with the industry including licensing, conservation, and marketing, said the Minister.
iJr McAlnine arrived in Invercargill late in the afternoon after visiting the Nug-gets lighthouse. Tomorrow he will travel on and inspect the ferry Wairua. and have discussions on repairs to the Half Moon Bay wharf at Stewart Island
