MALVERN MATCHES
A convincing win over South Malvern, the competition winner last season, put Greendale in the lead in the Malvern sub-association’s competition. Bowling for Hororata, G. Dysart, just returned from secondary school, took five wickets for 21 runs, one of the day’s best performances. The highest scorer was J. Rich (United), who made 68. For Greendale, B. Ridgen batted very patiently for his 52 retired, and the bowling of C. Millar and J. Adams took the side to victory. Scores:— United 106 (J. Rich 68; N. Rothwell three for 31, J. Averill two for 23, R. Morris three for 22) beat Hororata 77 (J. Averill 25; G. Dysart five for 21). Greendale 122 (B. Ridgen 52 retired, C. Millar 16; R. Stuart two for 22. J. Marsh two for 1. N. Marsh two for 9) beat South Malvern 68 (R. Stuart 22. H. Joyce 15; C. Millar five for 39, J. Adams four for 18). Darfield Seniors 148 (R. Gunn 49 retired, G. Steele 20. F. Turner 19. D. Waghorn 16. P. Beaman 15: D. Gunn four for 25) beat Darfield juniors 91 (D. Gunn 45, T. McGowan 17; R. Gunn two for 34. G. Cummins two for 10, B. Bloor four for 6).
