FALL INTO AUCKLAND HARBOUR

WOMAN RESCUED BY TWO SEAMEN (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 17. Two young seamen dived off the stern of the Union Steam Ship Company’s freighter Wairimu this afternoon to rescue an elderly woman who had fallen between Prince’s wharf and the side of the ship while saying farewell to friends. Ten minutes later the Wairimu had begun its voyage to Singapore, and the woman was standing on the wharf refusing all offers of assistance from St. John ambulance men. Dripping, cold, and shocked from her experience, the woman brushed aside all offers of help and asked why two ambulances were standing nearby. “I do not understand what all the fuss is about,” she added. “After all, I only fell into the harbour.”
