RECORD FIGURE LAST SEASON (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, December 17. More than 3,000.000 carcases of frozen meat were handled over the Bluff wharves last season, for the first time. Bluff now handles the largest tally of mutton and lamb of any port in New Zealand, according to figures contained in the annual report of the Waterfront Industry Commission for the year ended March 31. Reporting this to the Bluff Harbour Board today, the chairman (Mr N. D. Cullen) said the last of last season’s kill was shipped on the Brisbane Star on November 6. To get the 3,000.000 tally boned ewe mutton was taken into account. A total of 17.140,121 running carcases was shipped from 10 New Zealand ports. Comparative figures (beef excluded) are:—Bluff, 2.934.336; Wellington, 2,923.982; Timaru, 2,621,983; Lyttelton, 2,433,017; Auckland, 1,907.558; Napier, 1,761,559: Otago. 1,391,400; New Plymouth, 736,108; Gisborne, 340.157; Nelson, 89-961.
