Saving Thames Swans.—A secret chemical is helping to save the lives of hundreds of swans covered by crude oil floating down the river Thames from an overturned oil barge. The formula for the chemical is the secret of a German ornithologist. Dr. Max Heinz Sy, who arrived in London on Monday bringing the special cleansing preparation. Although more than 100 swans have died, Dr. Sy's chemical has saved many others, and there are a further 200 still under treatment.— London, December 14.
