First Negro In U.S.
Airline Crew (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, December 14. Perry Young, a 37-year-old negro, has broken the aerial colour barrier and become the first negro member of an air crew to work on any scheduled passenger airline in the United States. Mr Young, has been accepted as a pilot with New York Airways, the city's helicopter airline. New York Airways was one of 18 airlines serving New York State that joined in a statement in October expressing a policy of non-discrimina-tion in the selection of air crew staff.
