CONDITIONS IN TAMAROA
COMPANY REPLIES TO CRITICISM “The Tamaroa was in possession of a Ministry of Transport passenger certificate and has a Lloyd’s classification of 100 Al. It is only necessary to point this out as the complete answer to criticisms of want of supervision by the owners in sending the vessel to sea in the condition alleged by Major K. K. Kirk,’’ said the New Zealand manager of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Line (Mr F. D. Harris) in Wellington yesterday, replying to criticisms by Major Kirk printed yesterday. That heavy weather had been experienced during the voyage from England was an historic fact, and steps had been taken to repair certain damage, Mr Harris said, but Major Kirk’s denial of extreme weather was an unsolicited tribute to the seaworthiness of the Tamaroa. /
It was strange that other passengers did not agree with Major Kirk and had praised the pleasure and comfort of the outward voyage, although they occupied similar accommodation to that allotted to Major Kirk, said Mr Harris.
