WOMEN’S PART IN WORLD PEACE
HOUSEWIVES’ UNION RESOLUTION
“The Canterbury Housewives’ Union stands by its belief in the need for peaceful negotiation of international disputes and urges the SecretaryGeneral of the United Nations (Mr Dag Hammarskjold) to rse his good offices to this end concerning both Egypt and Hungary.” said a resolution carried unanimously at a recent meeting of the union.
The resolution said that the union affirmed its belief that at this time of tension women should maintain a calm and thoughtful view of events, remember that people of all races had their place on earth, and reject any incitement to hatred of other nations. Mrs M. E. Furey gave a report on the conference of housewives’ organisations. which she attended in Auckland at Labour week-end. At this conference of renresentatives of 19 organisations, a Federation of New Zealand Housewives was formed.
