Warm Week-end Weather
High temperatures were recorded in Christchurch during the week-end. On Saturday the maximum temperature was 75.7 deg. between 11 a.m. and noon. At 1.30 p.m. the temperature had fallen to 70deg. but it remained warm throughout the afternoon, and at 8 p.m. the temperature was still 66deg. The warm weather attracted persons to beaches and picnic spots away from the city, and only a light poll was recorded in the Christchurch local body elections. 41.2 per cent, of those on the rolls voting. For the 1000 or so persons working in polling booths work in shirt sleeves was the order of the day. Yesterday the weather remained warm, the temperatures at noon. Ipm. and 2 p.m. being 63.8 deg. 65deg, and 64.7 deg respectively. About 8 p.m. light rain began.
