COMPANION SUFFERS KNEE INJURY

A 19-year-old youth, Donald Brian Noble, of Makarewa Junction, was killed in a shooting accident in Fiordland National Park this morning. Another 19-year-old youth, lan Barron. of 197 Lome’ street, Invercargill, who was with Noble, suffered an injury to a knee. The accident occurred about 8 a.m. in rugged country some miles from Cascade creek. Noble was shot when he was mistaken for a deer. A party led by Constable L. A. Everett, of Lumsden, went into the bush in the morning, and returned to the roadside with the body just before 9 p.m. Barron was brought out by stretcher, and was taken to the Kew Hospital by ambulance. SOLDIER BELIEVED DROWNED UNSUCCESSFUL SEARCH OF RIVER (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, Nov. 18. A soldier from Linton Military Camp is believed 'to have been drowned in the Manawatu river today. He was:. Russell Edmund Birchelar, aged 21 of Feilding. A party of 16 soldiers from, the camp, including Birchelar. had been washing trucks in the river, and remained. after finishing their work, to have a swim. $ When the party found that one ot their number was missing, they returned to the river, and found the missing man’s clothes. After searching for Birchelar. they called the police at 1 p.m. Police with diving and dragging equipment then searched the river unsuccessfully. Jack Gordon, aged 49. a freezing worker, of Invercargill, who suffereu head injuries in a fall on Friday night, died in the Dunedin Public Hospital today. He fell at a house in .King street, and was admitted unconscious to the hospital. The police repotted that there was no evidence of foul play.
