MILK AND CREAM SUPPLIES
EFFORTS TO MAINTAIN HIGH STANDARD
STATEMENT BY VENDORS' ASSOCIATION
“All licensed milk vendors obtain their milk and cream from Govern-ment-licensed treatjnent stations, where every care is taken to ensure that milk and cream complies with all requirements of Health Department regulations.” said Mr P. A. Caithness. chairman of the Canterbury Milk Vendors’ Association, commenting on Court proceeclings last week, in which the supplier of cream to a storekeeper was described as a milk vendor. The storekeeper was fined £lO on each of two charges of selling bottled cream without a label, and selling cream containing less than 40 per cent, of butterfat. “The man who supplied the storekeeper was not a licensed milk vendor, nor was he a member of the Milk Vendors’ Association,” said Mr Caithness. “It is the endeavour of our association to support the action of the Health Department in its aim to eliminate the illegal supply of sub-standard milk and cream to the public, and to see that the public receives the highest possible standard of milk and cream obtainable,” Mr Caithness said. “Under the town milk scheme, no licensed vendor is permitted to distribute milk or cream unless it is obtained from authorised treatment stations. The scheme operates for the general protettfion of the consumer and our association does not condone the supply of milk or cream below standard or obtained from any source other than a legal and registered supply where the proper facilities are available to ensure a product up to legal standards,” he said.
