NEW TELEPHONE DIRECTORY
DELIVERY TO BEGIN ON MONDAY
The Post Office will begin distribution on Monday of the new telephone directory for the Christchurch district. * It is expected to take about three weeks to complete delivery of the 62,000 copies, and the department has asked that subscribers withhold comBlaints about non-delivery until after •ecember 10. This year’s book has 240 pages. 20 more than last year’s. The cover is red and white instead of the green and white for the September, 1955, edition.
The main change is the replacement of the initial letter at the top of each page by the first and last names to appear on such page. As previously, subscribers connected with the Christchurch central exchange and the ligh + interlocking satellite exchanges in the suburbs will be listed with five-figure numbers. The first two figures of the number indicate the exchange, as follows:—3s. 36. 37 and 39. Beckenham: 31 and 38. Fendalton; 45. 46, 47 .Riccarton; 61, Mount Pleasant; 08. New Brighton: 48, 49. Papanui; 54, 55. 56. 57. St. Albans; 58, 59. Shirley; all others. Central. The other three satellite exchanges —lslington. Lyttelton and Sumner — operated on a different basis, are indicated by three figures prefaced by the letters. ISL, LYT, or SUM.
