HELICOPTER FOR TIMARU FIRM
MACHINE ARRIVES IN WELLINGTON The Bell 47 helicopter with which Helicopters (N.Z.). Ltd., will open its Dominion-wide service, arrived at Wellington by the Mariposa. Mr Cyril Webber, a director of the Timaru firm, met the ship and arranged for the machine to be sent to Rongotai airport for assembly. Helicopters, Ltd., will be the sec- - ond firm in New Zealand to operate these machines. The other is Helicopter Services, Ltd., of Hamilton, which operates a Bell 47—the same model—and a Hiller UH-128. Mr Webber said in Wellington • that he expected Mr Robert Facer, the general manager of Kern Copters. Incorporated, of Bakersfieil California, to arrive at the end of the week. Mr Facer, who is a hell- ’ copter pilot, will train the pilots of * the Timaru firm. The Bell 47 can carry a pilot and two passengers and the Timaru firm’s machine is fully equipped for crop spraying, dusting and topdressing. It has a full set of spares, and the total value of these and the aircraft i» more than £20,000. Although the helicopter will be based on Timarti. it is likely that the firm will commence operations in the North Island.
