N.Z. RAILWAYS COMMISSION

DEPUTY CHAIRMAN RESIGNS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. October 19. The resignation of Mr R. Martin, a Wellington company director, as a director and deputy-chairman of the New Zealand Railways Management Commission, was announced today by the M'nister of Railways ’Mr J. K. McAlpine). Mr Martin was appointed a director when the commission was set up in January. 1953. In May. 1953. he became deputy-chairman. "Mr Martin, who has a very wide reputation as a successful businessman, has for nearly three years given the Railways Commission the benefit of his very considerable ability.” said Mr M jAlpihe. “I am very appreciative of the way he has served both the Government and the commission, playing a significant part in helping to solve many of the commission’s major problems. It is with reeret that I have accepted his resignation.” Mr McAlpine concluded.
