POLICE TRAINING FACILITIES

“ College Will Have To Be Built ” MR BARNETT’S VIEW OF PRESENT SCHOOL (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. July 5. A police training ollege will have to ie built, “beyond any question of doubt,’’ to replace the present trainin* school at Trentham, according to, the Controller-General of Police (Mr S. a. Barnett). He said today in Auckland that the collection of First World War huts which form the Trentham school would soon have outlived their usefulness. . . “The ideal would be a well-cquippea new college fitted to train recruits in all tyjjes of police work,” he said. Extensions to the Trentham school were intended to provide living quarters for recruits and extra classrooms for a cadet training school, added Mr Barnett. The school would still only be capable of training recruits in groups of 100. “The school is adequate for ordinary purposes. We would not be justified m enlarging it beyond its present capacity to cater for a temporary excess of untrained recruits.” Mr Barnett said. The second batch from the recent influx of more than 400 recruits was already undergoing training. Mr Barnett Said that the principles of i training adopted for the police school I were working out well. However, a greater emohasis would be put on I practical training with future intakes, i Mr P. Munro. Assistant Commissioner of Police, said later that the I products of the police school who were ' serving in the Auckland district were verv satisfactory. They had a high standard of discipline, and had rspeciallv good de-'ortmrnt in ihc streets.
