FIVE YEARS’ GAOL FOR RAPE
(New Zealana Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 5.
Reginald Rihia, aged 21, a bushman, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by Mr Justice Shorland in the Auckland Supreme Court today for raping a 21-year-old pregnant married woman at National Park on May 27. His Honour also sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment for breaking into the woman’s home in the early hours of the morning with intent to commit a crime. The terms are to be concurrent.
“It is difficult to imagine a worse case of rape,” his Honour said.
Counsel (Mr S. H. Tudhope) said that Rihia had spent some time in a mental institution.
