SPRINGBOK TRAINING EXERCISES

CHIROPRACTOR CRITICAL

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 5.

Dr D H. Craven’s idea of training his Springboks was sound if used in the proper circumstances, but in present conditions it was ridiculous, said a prominent Wellington chiropractor and muscle expert, Mr C. J. Phelps, today. . . He thought the training system used by Dr. Craven could have caused the pulled leg muscles. The team, said Mr Phelps, should have been prepared gradually —over at least 12 months—for the type of exercises Dr. Craven was employing after only a few weeks.

Dr. Craven, who is director of physical education at Stellenbosch University, said in Dunedin last night that Mr Phelps’s statement was absurd. —(P.A.
