PARTIES TO CONFER IN CONCILIATION MOVE FOR “HARMONY’S SAKE” (New Zealaid Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 2. Pendins the return of the Judge of the Court of Arbitration <Sir Arthur Tyndall), the Federation of Labour had; agreed to refer union disputes due fori arbitration back to the parties for con-: ciliation. said the president of the federation »Mr F. P. Walsh) today. Failing results, the federation* would press the Government for the appointment of a Judge to the Court or Arbitration to act while Sir Arthur Tyndall was overseas, he said. Following the instructions of its member unions concerned, the executive of the federation had refused to have the disputes heard before Judge Stilwell, said Mr Walsh. Though the federation had agreed to the Minister of Labour's proposal, that disputes referred to the Court for settlement should be referred back to the parties for further discussion, it was not hopeful of the result, he said. For harmony's sake, the executive of the federation had agreed to the Minister’s proposal, said Mr Walsh. The executive will press further for fn appointment of a Judge of the Court of Arbitra‘ion to act while Sir Arthur Tyndall is overseas. “If the Government does not realise the importance of the Court carrying I on its normal functions, the federation! Joes.’ he said. “It was on this policv that Labour was elected in 1935. and this present Government, on the policy placed before the electors, pledged itself to uphold conciliation and arbitration proceedings.”
