CANAL RESERVE
Sir, —Now that the footpath alongside the crematorium has been nicely tidied up, could the council complete the job by a few loads of gravel in the numerous pot-holes past the crematorium in Canal reserve? The roads on both sides are in very bad shape and need attention. Why not complete the tar-sealing already done in part? Those who like to arrive in the city with clean cars find this almost impossible.—Yours, etc., SUFFERER. June 11, 1956.
[When this letter was referred to the Christchurch City Council, the City Engineer (Mr E. Somers) said that the reconstruction of this section of Linwood avenue was provided for in the reading loan, but it would be some time before the work could be done. In the meantime, some grading had been carried out and these minor improvements would remove the worst of the troubles.]
