ANTARCTIC APPEAL BOOKLET Sir.—This morning’s post brought a booklet soliciting donations for tM Antarctic appeal. Of 32 pages, three are devoted to Rugby football, one ana a half to advice of the type deprecated annually by the critics of capping magazines, and 15 to advertisements. The remainder, photographs and notes on past, present, and future expeditions to the Antarctic is well enough; but are we. as citizens of a near neighbour to Antarctica, to be considered incapable of assimilating anything without the palliatives of Rugby football and dubious humour? There can be no doubt that the objects of the appeal are excellent, but _ surely the lure of the unknown or little known can stand upon its own feet, or perhaps it would be necessary for the members of the expedition to parade through the streets in “Davy Crockett” hats. —Yours, etc.. FROSTBITE FRED. June 28. 1956.
