PARKING METER REVENUE
USE AS GENERAL FUNDS OPPOSED “The general revenue from parking meters—after the deduction of reasonable installation costs, and operating and administrative charges—should be used to provide off-street parking facilities or in some other way for the benefit of motorists,” said a resolution passed by the council of the Automobile Association (Canterbury) on Thursday evening. Members of the council expressed alarm at the decision of the Christchurch City Council to divert the revenue from parking meters to its general funds. The council also decided that a motion would be moved at the next annual meeting of the association expressing disapproval of the reported proposal to use parking meter revenue for general purposes in the city of Christchurch and asking the City Council whether it would receive a deputation to put forward its views.
