JAPANESE ACTIVE IN WOOL MARKET
An interesting feature of Australian wool sales in the last three months has been the activity of Japanese buyers. Australian wool shipments for the seven-month period to the end of January show Japan to be the third largest buyer of Australian wool. First place is taken by the United Kingdom in this period, with 594.000 bales, while France is second with 419,000 and Japan took 327.000 bales to occupy third place. This sustained Japanese demand for wool suggests a further extension in wool textile production in that country.
