SYNTAX’S CAMPAIGN IN AUSTRALIA

HOCK INJURY MAY DELAY DEPARTURE

The champion three-year-old Syntax was taken to Te Rapa on Thursday morning for pace work. He injured his near hock when spelling in his paddock 10 days ago, and although he was very sore and the joint was badly swollen, he has made a good recovery. He was only slightly tender after finishing his work on Thursday. T e injury puts the future of Syntax in doubt, according to his owner-trainer, Mr S. H. Walker. The horse may not travel to Australia until the middle of August. He was to have left on July 20. His engagements in Australia will depend on the progress he makes.

SKINDLES HOTEL WINS NEW STAKES

(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) LONDON. June 21. Mr F. Blackall’s Irish colt, Skindies Hotel, won the New Stakes, for two-year-olds, run over five furlongs at Royal Ascot today. He beat Mr Claude Harper’s colt, Ennis, by three lengths. Mr Joseph McGrath’s colt, Ballyprecious, was one length and a half away, third. Fifteen ran. The race was worth £2799 10s to the winner, £327 to the second horse, and £163 10s to the third. The race resulted:—

Mr F. Blackall’s colt. Skindies Hotel, 9-0 B. Swift 1: Mr Claude Harper’s colt, Ennis, 9-0 W. H. Carr 2; Mr Joseph McGrath’s colt, Ballyprecious, 9-0 J. Eddery 3. Won by three lengths, with one length and a half between second and third.

Mr Marcel Boussac’s four-year-old colt, Macip, won the Gold Cup, run over two miles and a half. Mrs Cino del Duca’s Bewitched 111 was second, and Mr Ralph Strassburger’s Clichy was third. Ten ran. Romany Air was fourth. Won by a length and a half, with a length between second and third. The winner received £11,645.

Mrs Thomas Lilley’s colt, Court Command, won the King Edward VII Stakes for three-year-olds, run over one mile and a half. He beat Lord Astor’s colt, Hornbeam, by one length and a half. Lady George Cholmondeley’s colt, Prince Moon was three-quarters of a length away, third. Twelve ran.

The winner received £4530 10s, second £533. and third £266 10s.
