GOLF FOR ASTHMA
The Pupuke Golf Club of Auckland could not be blamed if it were to apply for a patent naming itself as a sure cure for bronchial asthma. Without in any way deviating from the truth, it could also use for its slogan the words “Use when required for a complete cure within four years”—for such was the case with R. R. Newdick, a Takapuna Grammar School bov who, acting on his doctor’s advice, joined the club four years ago as the best means of getting an abundance of fresh air. Today, Ross Newdick’s bronchial asthma has completely disappeared, and at the age of 18 he has been the winner of the Auckland provincial championship, the summer championship and the winter championsnip. As the number one player of the Auckland team he competed with the best golfers in the Dominion in the Freyberg Rose Bowl tournament this year and won three of his six matches without a single wheeze.
