GIFT TO ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
LAND FOR TRAINING CAMP
A block of land of about 1 acre 3| roods, in the Malvern County, has been set aside under the Land Act. 1948. as a site for a training camp for ambulance and nursing cadets, under the control of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. The property, which is the old Waddington School, had been vacant for about 18 months, said an official of the brigade last evening. It had a large two-roomed building in a reasonable state of repair, but a lot of work would have to be done before it was ready for a camp, he said. A kitchen block would have to be built, and electricity laid on. Water would be available from a well on the site, he said. “Among other things we need a good large coal burning stove, but I do not know where we can find one at the moment.”
It was hoped to hold a “working” camp with about 12 senior boys about next Labour Day week-end, he said. One of the building's two rooms is to be used as a dormitory. When completed, the camp will hold between 36 and 40 boys.
