ACCIDENTS
INJURIES TO CRANE DRIVER MAN LOWERED 110 FT TO AMBULANCE (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 19. A 68-year-old crane driver, Mr James Innes, was lowered 110 ft by his own crane after he had been injured by a swinging crane hook on the crane platform on the site of the new 11-storey Government building in Auckland about 9.40 a.m. today.
Before Mr Innes was lowered, a St. John ambulance driver, Mr F. Reed, had climbed the scaffolding to give first aid. Mr Innes was admitted to the Auckland Hospital with severe concussion, head injuries, and a dislocated collarbone. He has been employed by the Williamson Construction Company, of Christchurch, since 1921, and has worked on big building jobs all over the Dominion. His home is in Wellington. z
MOTOR-CYCLIST INJURED
A motor-cyclist who crashed into an open drain in Gayhurst road, Dallington, last evening suffered head injuries. He is Ivan Keats, of 25 Halberg street. Mr Keats was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital by a St. John ambulance and admitted His condition last evening was reported to be satisfactory.
