EARLY RELICS OF N.Z.
Rich Store Lent For London Exhibition (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, June II A rich store of privately-owned relics of pioneering days in New Zealand has been discovered as a result of the appeal made recently in’ United Kingdom newspapers for the loan of historical material relating to the period Journals, pictures and other objects were sought by the High Commissioner (Sir Clifton Webb) for inclusion in a historical exhibition, covering the century after the circum-nav-igation of New Zealand by Captain Cook, which is to be opened by the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) on June 20, the day he arrives in London.
The response to the appeal astonished officials who are organising the exhibition. “The amount and quality of the material offered shows that in some respects there may be more—and more valuable—relics of early New Zealand privately owned in the British Isles than in New Zealand itself.” one of them said today. “Some of the things which will be on display—pictures of early Wellington are one example—would amaze the Dominion Museum and Turnbull Library people and make their mouths water.”
