MEN’S BASKETBALL
CO-OPERATION PROPOSED
Goal followed goal in the best game of the season in the Canterbury men's basketball competitions, when B.G.H. A played B.G.H. B. Two extra times were played before N. Saunders gathered in a loose rebound to score the winning goal for B.G.H. A.
R. Entwhistle was again the highest scorer tor the A team with 10 points. J. Harliwick scored 11 goals for the B team.
Tight zone defence by both sides made scoring difficult. The young B team was superior at rebounding and this was largeiy responsible for its many opportunities. The team play and ball control by both teams was excellent. Y-Boys A was too strong for the competition leader. Rex A. Although the Rex A players used pressing man-to-man tactics, the small, last-moving Y-Boys’ forwards slipped round them frequently to score an early 10 points. Weak rebounding in the Rex front line gave the Y-Boys frequent possession from which they scored heavily. Highest scorers for Y-Boys were M. McDougall and Cairns. with six points. J. Hayman netted four goals for Rex. The Rangiora captain, K. Davidson, drew four goals in the match against University when attempting to stop the scoring of A. Mcßae, the tall University centre. He kept Mcßae’s tally to one point. Rangiora had complete control of the game until the last five minutes, when R. Salt scored 14 points to give University a win by 22 points to 17. University’s handling left much to be desired. H. Turnbull played an outstanding game for Rangiora, and Davidson, with nine points, was its highest scorer. Results:— a University A 22. Rangiora 17; Burnham 19, Oriental 8; B.G.H. A 23, B.G.H. B 21; Deaf Old Boys 15. B.G.H. C 14; Y-Boys A 19. Rex A 10; Rex B 34, Y-Boys B 5. Don Adams Trophy Canterbury’s B grade representative squad lost the Don Adams trophy to Mid-Canterbury in a tournament held at Ashburton. Mid-Canterbury was superior in all games. Lack of cohesion in the Canterbury team was mainly responsible for its loss. Results:— Canterbury B 40, South Canterbury 39; Rangiora 42, Canterbury B 38, Mid-Can-terbury 54. Canterbury B 40. Canterbury Team Selected The following team has been selected to represent Canterbury against Royal New Zealand Air Force at Wigram next Tuesday:—Forwards: G. Leeming, R. Entwistle. A. Harbutt, D.
