DR. SOEKARNO IN ITALY

(Rec. 11.10 p.m.) ROME, June 12. The President of Indonesia (Dr. Soekarno) ’ last night denounced colonialism and said that Indonesians would fight again if anything openly threatened them or undermined them. The President was addressing the Foreign Press Association during his three-day state visit to Italy. “We seek the unity of our nation, and are working and will work for the reinclusion of West Irian (Dutchcontrolled West New Guinea) into the fold of that nation.” he said.

“We do this because it is a sore tribulation to us that any part of our country should still suffer colonialism.”

He said that the turbulence in Asia was the. result and aftermath of colonialism and was not due to the liberating effects of nationalism.
