MATCH FOR LANE CUP
CANTERBURY A TEAM TO PLAY
The Canterbury Basketball Association is to play its seinior A representative team asainst South Canterbury for the Lane Cup this year. Tiis was decided by the association’s executive last evening after a suggestion on these lines had been received from the Souh Canterbury Association.
Several members, supporting the suggestion. said Canterbury's senior reserve side played for the cun previously, but were unsuccessful. As South Canterbury could now p ovide a team of senior A grade status, it should have the opportunity of playing Canterbury A teams. As the Canterbury A team would have to fulfil another commitment in Dunedin, it was decided to ask the South Canterbury Association if the match could be played in Christchurch on August 11. It was reported that six clubs were still unfinancial, and after some discus-, sion it was agreed that if subscriptions were not paid before this Saturday the teams involved would be suspended. The West Coast Association will be asked if it would be willing to play a Canterbury senior reserve side at Greymouth on August 11. The fo'lowing manager-coaches were apopinted:— . Senior: Miss H. Yates. SeniZr reserve; Mrs R. F’ench. Second grade: Mrs A. South. Third grade: Mrs M. Blanch. Fourth grade: Mrs J. Steel. FUth and sixth grades: Miss D. Evans (coach). Miss M. Curran (manager). HURUNUI SUB-ASSOCIATION Matches in the Hurunui Basketball SubAssociation's competitions resulted on Saturday:— Senior.—Waikari 10, Cheviot 8; Culverden 21, Hawarden 13; Waiau, a bye.
Junior.—Cheviot 8, Waikari 3; Hawarden 17, Culverden 9; Waiau, a bye.
