GRAZIERS MAKE OFFER
Australian Shearers’ Award
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, June 11. An offer which may result in a settlement of the shearing dispute was made yesterday by the Graziers’ Federal Council.
The graziers’ offer covers these points: That hearing of applications for a new award for shearers be resumed before the Conciliation Commissioner. That each side put its case “with the least delay” to permit the hearing _ to be completed within a month. That any wage increases awarded to shearers be back-dated to the day the hearing is resumed or for two rnonths, whichever is the shorter. G? he refusal by shearers to work at the reduced rates has disrupted shearing in New South Wales and Queensland.
A “black” ban on wool shorn at the reduced rate has caused the cancellaSydney and Newcastle wool
The Graziers’ Federal Council gtatement said; “We have the strongest objections to retrospective awards, particularly in their application to seasonal workers, but that principle is of less importance than the national welfare.
