WARNING TO LICENSEES
HURUNUI COMMITTEE’S ANNUAL MEETING Tlfe warning given at the annual meeting of the Lyttelton Licensing Committee last week to licensees of hotels persistently infringing licensing „ laws was repeated at Rangiora yesterday by the chairman, Mr L. N. Ritchie, at the annual meeting of the Hurunui Licensing Committee. Other members present were Messrs N. R. Wilkinson, A. Burke, C. W. Tyler, and H. R. Taylor. After drawing attention to the qualifications required by publicans for certificates of fitness, the chairman referred to a licensee who had had two convictions for licensing breaches during the year. The conduct of publicans, he said, should be such as to merit approbation, not censure. Cooperation with the police would be found to be beneficial. If the publican concerned abused the police in the slightest in the future, and it came to the notice of the committee, the necessary steps would be taken to deal with the position, he said. f The following applications for transfer of licences were granted:—Rother- .« barn Hotel, Rotherham, from Ronald Manning Sutherland to Rowland Edgar Cook; Waipara Hotel, Waipara, from Hector Thomas Prebble to Wil- £ larr L l _ Cecll Smart: Masonic Hotel.
