MILK BOARD’S TRUCKS
VALUATIONS TO BE SOUGHT approach to transport department The Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board is to ask the Transport Department to value its roundsmen’s trucks. The trucks are the board’s property, and are sold with the rounds, at market valuation. Yesterday, the board discussed in committee a roundsman’s claim for repairs to his vehicle—in which the valuation of the vehicle was an important factor—and heard in open meeting another roundsman’s offer to see his round and truck—at his own valuation. “I think we should ask the Transport Department what they can du —we have been tied up a lot with these trucks,” said the chairman (Miss M. B. Howard, M.P.). “It is not fair that we should sell a dud article, and that’s what we did even though we ourselves were ‘had’,” said Miss Howard, referring to the discussion in committee.
The board resolved to ask the department for its opinion. "When we hear from the board we shall make inquiries,” spid a spokesman for the department when the board’s decision was referred to him. “Our inspectors are qualified mechanics, but are not in touch with current market valuations,” he added.
