FEWER TRANSACTIONS IN LAND

DECREASE DURING 1955-56 There were 49,100 land transfer transactions during 1955-56. for a total consideration of £120,900,000, according to the latest issue of the Abstract of Statistics. These figures show decreases of 7471 in number and £15,800,000 in consideration on those for the previous year. Town and suburban properties accounted for 5600 of the decrease, and country properties for 1871. The amount of consideration fell by £8,100.000 for the town and. suburban properties, and £7.700,000 for country properties. The average amount of each transaction (town and suburban properties), over the last five years, shows the general upward trend: 1951-52, £1586: 1952-53, £1665: 1953-54, £1739; 1954-55, £1889; and 1955-56, £1950. The number of mortgage registrations. at 55.587, is a decrease of 2444 on the previous year’s figure, although the consideration, at £98.100.000, is an increase of £13,000,000 over last year. Mortgages discharged were 34.086, a drop of 3848 in number, while the value at £35.400.000. was also less than 1954-55 by £5.800.000.
