INQUEST AT REEFTON
MAN’S DEATH AFTER ROAD
ACCIDENT (From Our Own Keporter) REEFTON. June 8. A verdict that William James Simmiss died in the Greymouth Hospital on April 30 as a result of head injuries caused when he was struck by an unknown motor-vehicle on theNel-son-Reefton highway. 200 yards east of the Inangahua Junction Hotel, was returned by the Coroner (Mr J. A. Gardner) at an inquest held at Reefton The accident occurred on March 30 about 9.35 p.m. Mr D J. Sullivan appeared for the relatives of the deceased.
Neal Webster and Joseph Gordon Stewart both of Inangahua. gave evidence of finding Simmiss Iving injured beside the road, and Mr S. de C. Barclay, surgeon at the Greymouth Hospital, gave medical evidence of Simmiss’s injuries. Sergeant B. R. Alty. of the Reefton oolice. in evidence, said that extensive inquiries had been made by the oolice. and nothing had been found to suggest foul play. It seemed that Simmiss had been struck by a passinc vehicle, the driver of which had been unaware that he had hit someone The vehicle concerned had _iot been located.
