CORSO CLOTHING GIFTS
THANKS FROM WEST GERMANY
New Zealand women, sending used clothing abroad to refugees and other needy people, not only send “lovely things, new warm pullovers among them,” but “pack them so wonderfully, sorted so perfectly and folded so neatly, that this care and love in themselves give us great joy whenever we open a bale from New Zealand.” This comment is made by the pastor who is. chairman of the local Assistance Organisation at Paderborn. West Germany. in a letter to CORSO. “The ladies who unpack,” the letter continues, “being housewives, appreciate all this tidiness. With clothes as they come from some countries to us it is hard—and sometimes entertaining—to determine their use. But with New Zealand-packed clothing this guessing is never necessary and sorting is very fast. • “But we have one complaint—although I will be amazed if you, or anyone, can remedy it! Why does a woman have to replace her clothing so much more often than a man. Men wear theirs right out. I suppose. Anyhow, our refugees here, who, whatever their former occupations, can get no work except on jobs such as farm labouring that use up much clothing, can never get enough men’s toear from us. But whatever vre do give, male or female, is very much needed and very gratefully received.” The local committees of CORSO, although making a house-to-house collection through New Zealand only once a year, in September, accept good used clothing- all through the year, and in the larger centres have groups of women meeting to sort and pack every week.
