AERONAUTICAL SCHOLARSHIP
AWARD TO NELSON MAN
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 8.
The 1956 Aeronautical Research Scholarship has been awarded to Mr J. G. M. Williams, of Nelson, the Minister in charge of Scientific and Industrial Research (Mr R. M. Algie) announced today. Mr Williams is 23. and was the Mercer Memorial Scholar last year. He gained his bachelor of engineering degree at Canterbury University College, and is completing his master’s degree in aeronautics.
The scholarship is awarded annually and is tenable at the College of Aeronautics, Cranfield, England, for two years.
With Mr D. C. Stevenson, senior lecturer in mechanical engineering, specialising in aeronautics, at Canterbury University College. Mr Williams last year worked on supersonic jet sound research at Riccarton. This was New Zealand’s contribution to projects being undertaken by the Commonwealth Advisory Aeronautical Research Council. Mr Williams is one of the first candidates in New Zealand for the new degree of master of engineering.
