SURPLUS U.S. PRODUCE
Sales To Soviet Proposed (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 7. The Secretary of State (Mr Dulles) today urged Congress to authorise the sale or barter of surplus farm w commodities to Iron Curtain countries. Mr Dulles’s stimony at an "off-the-record” session with the Agriculture Committee of the House of Representatives failed to satisfy members. He was asked to forward a letter to the committee detailing the Administration’s reasons for requesting the repeal of the present ban. The Administration has requested a revision of the Agriculture Trade Development and Assistance Act of 1954 to permit bartering of United States farm commodities with Soviet bloc countries. The proposal would* be included in a bill to double the amount of Govern-ment-held commodities which could be sold abroad for foreign currencies.
