WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

Little River.—Mrs J. Grant presided at the May meeting of the institute. Mrs W. Hunt gave an interesting talk on "Longbeach” and the Royal visit there, and showed photographs. Mrs Grant gave a report of the annual meeting of the Canterbury federation. The industrial section of the schedule for the spring flower show was arranged.

Lakeside.—Mrs W. Husband presided at the May meeting of the institute. The motto was “Ail things are done easily that are done willingly.” The roll call was my favourite pastime. Birthday sprays were presented to four members. Sympathy was expressed with the members of the Howson and Croft families in their bereavements. Mrs Husband gave a report on the annual meeting of the Canterbury federation. Remits for the conference in July were discussed. Okain’s Bay.—Mrs Curry presided at the May meeting of the institute. The roll call was "Something interesting I have read.” Mrs Curry gave a report of the Canterbury federation meeting. Mrs George Harris continued the “golden thread” talks with a discription of her recent trip to Milford on the Monowai. Mrs Robert Thacker was presented with a posy. Mrs Curry expressed regret at Mrs Thacker’s departure from the district to make her home in Christchurch.

Ohoka.—Mrs Madsen presided at the monthly meeting of the institute. Two resignations were recieved with regret because the members had left the district The division was invited to meet the Federated Farmers and the Women’s Division of that organisation to discuss plans for a social evening. Miss Aschen was congratulated on her appointment to the executive of the North Canterbury Federation executive committee. Three members were given birthday honours. Arrangements were made for celebration of the institute’s twenty-fifth anniversary. Captain Smith gave a talk on the work •of the Salvation Army.
