INCREASED NUMBER OF TAXPAYERS
1400 PER CENT. INCREASE SINCE 1922 (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 7. Although New Zealand’s population has increased by less than 75 per cent, since 1922-23, the number of individual taxpayers has increased by 1400 per cent., according to figures given by the Statistics and Inland Revenue Departments. There were 35,574 individual taxpayers for the financial year 1922-23. compared with an estimated 520,000 this year. The individual tax exemption in 1822-23 was £3OO. with £5O exemption for each child and dependent relative.
