Sir, —It was not 1 who dubbed the “terrorists" Malayan Liberation Army. They did that themselves when they organised resistance to the Japanese occupation. What Mr Hartley dubbed them in those days, I don’t know, but if consistent with his present twisted reasoning, it should have beer-
“terrorists.” His statement that the Malayans are “praying to the British to remain" is refuted by the fact thal it is necessary to keep some 500,0ut) troops there in order to remain. Hi* statement that We are exploiting the Maori by the mere act of digging coai or cutting timber is on a level with his assertion that rubber trees are natives of London. What the Malayan* object to is not the presence of British people, but having to accept an extremely low standard of living while enormous profits are made from their toil by what, to them, are foreign companies.—Yours, etc., JS June 7. 1956.
