CLASHES OFF CHINA
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) TAIPE, June 7. The Nationalist Defence Ministry announced today that more clashes between Nationalist Chinese and Communist naval vessels took place off the Min river, on the northern Fukien coast, yesterday. On two occasions, the Ministry said. Communist vessels, supported by shore batteries, fired a total of 151 shells at Nationalist patrolling vessels. Both Nationalist Air Force and Navy headquarters issued denials over claims made by Peking Radio of Nationalist losses, branding them as “pure day-dreaming.” The Communists claimed to have shot down one Nationalist F. 84 fighter over Swatow and to have sunk two Nationalist warships east of the Min river mouth on June 4.
