“NO POSSIBILITY OF WAR”

Reason For Cut In Soviet Forces

LONDON, June 6. Marshal Nikolai Bulganin, the Soviet Prime Minister, has said that Russia will cut her armed forces because “there is nowhere a possibility of war breaking out,” according to Moscow Radio today. The radio, quoted by Reuters, was broadcasting a recorded interview given by Marshal Bulganin last Saturday to a correspondent of the Mexican newspaper “Excelsior.”

Marshal Bulganin said that Russia had unilaterally begun disarmament, fully believing that nobody wanted war.

“In Europe, Britain will not start a war, the French do not want it, and the Germans cannot make it. “We hope that the Western Powers will follow our example and do likewise. If clear indications of understanding are given and there is goodwill, the results will be positive,” he said.

The Communist Party Leader, Mr Khrushchev, was told by Mr John Kennedy, an American publisher who was among 1000 guests at a reception m Moscow today to Marshal Tito, that the United States and the Soviet Union “must and can” get together Mr Khrushchev replied: “We believe it, and are ready.” Mr Kennedy commented that both countries should raise their curtains, and the Soviet Union should not be afraid of the United States.

Mr Khrushchev replied: “We do not fear the devil himself.”
