THIEVES BREAK INTO OFFICE

Thieves who broke into the Pegasus Press building in Oxford terrace, Christchurch, on Tuesday night forced open a new fire-proof cabinet with a jemmy and scattered manuscripts and books about the room in a search for money, but they were unsuccessful.

Entry was gained by forcing a window at the rear of the building. The thieves were apparently interested only in money, as they ignored the stocks of books and a shelf of valuable editions which are out of print. Among the manuscripts was a rare old New Zealand book “Cruise’s Ten Months’ Residence in New Zealand,” which is shortly to be republished.

No money has been kept on the premises since a theft 18 months ago. when £l2 was taken from an office drawer.
