POWER RESTRICTIONS RELAXED

AMENDMENTS BY NORTH CANTERBURY BOARD

Because of the improved power supply position, the North Canterbury Electric Power Board has decided that amended restrictions are to come into operation at once. Throughout the board’s district power cuts will be as follows; —Daily, 11 p.m. to midnight; Saturday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Sunday. 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Domestic water heating is prohibited where a consumer has alternative means of ’heating. Where this is not available, water heating may be used each night from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. The use of radiators for church heating is restricted to one hour for each service and for hall heating to 1 £

hours for each function. Apart from these, the use of electric radiators is prohibited except with the permission of the board in cases of hardship. Street lighting will be available from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Commercial and inside shop lighting is permitted only when the shoo or office concerned is attended. Lighting of outdoor sports grounds is prohibited, and indoor sports lighting must be reduced by 50 per ceht. The use of electric advertising sighs is prohibited. The board is anxious that from the end of the present month poultry breeders, of which there is a considerable number in the district, will be able to receive a more or less continuous Supply of power for brooder purposes and. with this object in view, hopes that consumers will be as sparing as possible in the use of power. \ Rangiora Borough The electrical emergency committee of the Rangiora Borough Council is to meet this morning to consider ' further possible reductions in the power restrictions.
