SOUTHBRIDGE RATES STRUCK
A total rate of l|d in the £ wa struck by the Southbridge Town Cour cil at a meeting this week. The rat is comprised of a general rate ( 1 13/32d in the £ and a special ha rate of 7/32d.
Estimates for 1956-57, presented b; the town clerk (Mr L. J. B. Chapple were approved. Provision was mad for tar-sealing the main highway t the Jown boundary along Taumut road, and also along Rakaia road. Good progress was reported with th erection of the new fire station, whic, is being built entirely by voluntary labour.
The town clerk presented account totalling £278 19s 4d, which wer passed for payment.
