MAGISTRATE’S COURT AT KAIKOURA

INTOXICATION CHARGE DISMISSED On a charge of riding a motor-cycl on the Esplanade, Kaikoura, whil under the influence of alcohol or drug Henry Gibson Robinson, aged J years, a railway surfaceman, appear® before Messrs J. H. Ingram, sen., an H. J. Hayward. Justices of the Peac in the Magistrate’s Court at Kaikoui on Monday. The charge was dismisses Robinson pleaded not guilty. In evidence. Traffic Officer D. Simpson said that at 6 p.m. on Jun 2 he had stopped the accused on Toi quary street for a traffic offence. O examining him, Mr Simpson allege that Robinson was under the influent of alcohol. Robinson admitted bavin had 12 beers. Mr Simpson said thi he had asked Robinson to perfon several small tests, which he had cai ried out quite well, but that his speec was slurred and his eyes were blooc shot. Robinson had then been take to the Kaikoura Police Station, an on arrival Mr Simpson was of th opinion that Robinson’s condition ha improved but that he was still unf to be in charge of a vehicle. Johnston, of Kaikoura, wh had examined accused at 6.15 p.n and -said that Robinson’s speech wa slightly slurred, and that he w; slightly unsteady on his feet, but th; could have been caused through a re cent leg injury. Dr. Johnston sai Robinson’s eyes were very bloodsho and considered that if he was to driv from one place to anqther he coul probably do it quite well, but if h had to drive in an emergency his r< actions would be somewhat impairec The Court considered the case ha not been proved, and the charge wi dismissed.
