DOLLAR AID TO INDONESIA

Increase Expected

(Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, .Tune 5.

Indonesia has received an indication that its allocation of technical assistance under the United States foreign aid programme might be almost doubled in the coming financial year, diplomatic sources said today. The Jakarta Government may also seek a new loan from the United States Export-Import Bank, to be used in part to finance its 25,000,000-dollar fertiliser project, these sources said. Indonesia has applied for an increase in technical assistance, which is being used for malaria control, developing agriculture, fishing, „ small industry, and various training schemes. A total of 1b.100.000 dollars is being spent on technical assistance in the financial year which expires at the end of this month. This is an increase of nearly 3,000,000 dollars over last year.

A further increase is now being negotiated in Jakarta between the Indonesian Government and officials of the International Co-operation Administration mission. Indonesian officials are also hopeful of securing a world bank loan to help finance the important Jatluhur hydro-electric power project, on which preliminary work has already started.
