Exports From Singapore
(Rrt. 11 p.m.) SINGAPORE. June 6
Government officials in Singapore would deal immediately with applications to make individual shipments up to 2000 tons of rubber for Communist China, the Minister, of Commerce (Mr R. M. Jumabhoy) announced in the Legislative Assembly today. ; The Minister said larger quantities, would be considered in consultation with the Colonial Office in London.
Mr Jumabhoy was defining the ‘‘reasonable quantities” which the Singapore and Malayan Governments have announced they would be permitted to send to Communist China. A ‘‘reasonable quantity” would be decided in conjunction with the number of applications received for export. Saying he had no doubt the House and Singanore business circles would be gratified by the removal of the bah. the Minister added: ‘‘No-one need fear my Ministry will exercise this discretion with undue harshness.”
